Suspended Loft
Loft House creates harmony between the vivid external urban environs of Beirut and the bold internal materiality of the living space.
Designed within the top levels of a new live/work apartment building in Beirut, Loft House retains existing elements of the structure, without compromising privacy or comfort.
The starting principles of the architecture, notably its circularity and the extensive, raw presence of concrete, set the tone for EAST’s design intervention – instead of seeking to overcome the circumstances, the materiality is enhanced and celebrated, becoming the centerpiece of a new residence.
Within the house, designed for a young couple, elements were reduced to focus on scale, color and tactility, creating a softness that allows for comfortable and playful coexistence.
A sculptural, crafted spiral staircase reveals the generosity of the space and leads to a suspended deck, where a half-moon pool of clear waters inspired by the infinite night skies, disseminates and reflects raw textures and layered vegetation.
Extensive glazing opens to a peripheral outdoor space that bridges the peaceful domesticity of the loft with the urban vitality of Beirut. In this roof garden, a verdant promenade is planted with a careful selection of specimens and culinary herbs.
Overall, the effect is to reinterpret and reclassify the daily routine of an urban resident.
